Cheddar Re-Fit Begins!!

The work on our Cheddar store has begun and the exciting changes are beginning to take shape.

Our deli area has been cordoned off so works for the new Subway, Butcher and adapted deli are taking place. Staff are working through the night to move shelving temporarily to allow us to shut half the store and remain able to serve our customers.

Unfourtunately we will have to close for:

Saturday 15th October: Closing early (at 8.00pm)

Sunday 16th October : 1 Day only (All Day)

This is to allow vital works to the refrigeration to take place so we can have half the shop open while half the shop is refurbished.

With all our efforts to remain open, we will have to close:

From Sunday 30th October: 10 Days

Re-Open: Thurs 10th November

This is to complete the installation of the Pharmacy and refurbishment of the entire store.

We appologise greatly for the inconvenience and assure you that we are trying to keep disruption to a minimum while we work to improve our service to you and the community of Cheddar.

We thank you for your patience and support during this exciting time.

Jonathan Tout

Marketing Manager

Cheddar’s Open Day goes down a storm…

Tout’s Budgens held an open day this Monday the 3rd October in the local Church House to showcase the upcoming Re-Fit and improvements to the store. Along with great support from all our local suppliers who put on a great show tasting many of the delights of the southwest.

Crowds of people came along to see the proposed changes and provide their feedback, which has given us some great pointers to build the store our community, really wants & deserves.

Budgens Cheddar Re-Fit

With presentations from our New Pharmacist Haider Al-Shamary and Family Butchers Gerald David the feedback was really positive and both the Butchers and Pharmacist are very keen to be part of such an interested community.

Response for the new Subway Sandwich shop was also very positive with people pleased about the addition of a new seating area and public toilet.

Many thanks to all our local suppliers for making the day possible and to all the people who came along to share their ideas and feelings.

Jonathan Tout joins the family team

Regulars at Tout’s Budgens will notice a new face on the shop floor very soon.  Jonathan, 22, son of Philip and Lesley, is joining the management team this Summer.  Fresh from finishing his degree in Business Enterprise at Bristol Business School, Jonathan has chosen a career in retailing after spending his year out in industry at Budgens head office in 2009/10.

He said: “I’m obviously very familiar with retailing, having been brought up in it, you could say it’s in the blood!  But it was great for me to do a degree along with some very practical experience that I can bring to the job.  It is going to be a bit of a culture shock but I’m really looking forward to it!”

Cheddar store set for a makeover

Things will be busy in the early autumn for Keith and his team in Cheddar as the store looks set for a complete re-vamp.

The plans, that will amount to approximately £0.5million of investment, will  make the most of the big features inside the store, with the emphasis focusing firmly on upgrading the key areas such as bakery and the  fresh fruit & veg offer,  but a butcher’s counter is also planned as is a brand new Subway in the café area.

Phil Tout says; “These are exciting plans for the store and we’ve already had a lot of good feedback from people. We are hoping for minimum disruption while the re-fit takes place, with half of the store closing down for half the time. The work is expected to take about 6-8 weeks in total.”
