Great Western Brewery

Great Western Brewery

We believe in 'Hand-Crafted' beer. The Great Western Brewing Company is a microbrewery brewery based in Bristol. We brew beer that is unfiltered, unpasteurized and full of flavour – the sort of beer we enjoy drinking and we hope you enjoy drinking, too.

We are a small, family run independent brewery, and we brew all our beer ourselves, on site with our own borehole.

Bristol Beer Factory

Bristol Beer Factory

‘A Taste of Independence'

The Building we have all our fun in is actually an old fermenting block that was built in 1904 for the Ashton Gate Brewery. In 2004, Bristol Brewing Co Ltd moved in and set up 10 barrel micro brewery called the Bristol Beer Factory in the basement of the fermenting block.

Our fantastic range of bottled beers has something for everyone. Whether you are a traditional best bitter man, a hop head or consider yourself a Belgian style connoisseur we'll have something for you.

Our cask conditioned ales are made in the traditional way of primary and secondary fermentation. This means the yeast is still alive and working in the cask, so the beer isn't filtered, it's not pasteurised and it's not artificially carbonated.

Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company

Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company

The requirements of a truly authentic Cheddar cheese are:

- It should be made from unpasteurised milk taken from cows grazing in the lush pastures surrounding Cheddar. The pastures influence the milk and the milk determines many of the key characteristics of the cheese

- Made and cheddared by hand using the cheesemaker's skill and experience rather than a mechanised process

- Matured in cloth for up to 18 months to produce a rind and, more importantly, to allow the gradual change in texture of the cheese to take its effect on flavour development. This happens differently in vacuum matured cheese.

Here at The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, we continue to make cheese in this way and are alone in keeping the traditional art of Cheddar making alive in the heart of the village of Cheddar. Our cheese has won many prizes and in the last two years has won awards at the British Cheese Awards and the Royal Bath and West Show.
